FAQ

Questions worth answering plainly.

Is Race Engineer free?

Yes. It is free to download and use, with no account required.

Is it affiliated with iRacing?

No. Race Engineer is an independent third-party application. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by iRacing.

Does it control my inputs or send chat messages on its own?

No. It doesn't touch your keyboard, wheel or pedals. In chat, it only sends the macros you set up, when the alert you picked happens.

Can it change my pit stop fuel amount automatically?

Only if you turn on Automatic Mode, and only the fuel service amount for your next pit stop, never any other input. This is gated so it can only act during an actual pit stop.

Where is my data stored?

Locally on your machine, next to your Documents folder. Race history, settings, and logs never leave your computer. There is no account and no server storing your data.

Which cars and tracks does it support?

Any car and track in iRacing. The fuel and pit calculations adapt to the session you are in.

Why does Windows show a SmartScreen warning?

The app isn't code-signed yet, which is common for small independent tools. Windows flags unsigned executables by default. Click "More info" then "Run anyway" to proceed.

How do updates work?

The app checks for new versions on its own and lets you know. You update with one click whenever you're not connected to iRacing, and if the new version doesn't start, it goes back to the previous one.

Is the source code open?

The desktop app's source is private. Published releases (the installable app itself) are public on GitHub, along with SHA-256 checksums for every download.

Is it available in other languages?

The desktop app is available in English, Português and Español, and so is this website.
